Crow Fall Sunset - watercolor painting batik - Michele Avanti
Crows fascinate me, they are always talking when I take my dogs for walks. They visit from a branch or as they hop along the grass. I am certain they know everyone who frequently walks by. What an incredibly intelligent group of birds these are. Here is my take through a batik painting of a crow on a branch at sunset.
Though Batik is usually done on clothe, there are newer techniques that use a special sized rice paper with watercolor and wax. That is the technique used in this painting. First the image is painted in watercolor, then a wax is applied over the entire piece. Once dry the waxy painting is crumbled breaking the wax up. Then it is lfattened back out and watercolor graphite ink is brushed into the cracks until it sets in and then dries. Finally once dry, it is ironed between sheets of newspaper till all the wax is removed. It is quite a time consuming process, this painting is the result. Hope you...
