Astrology Sagittarius Angel - mixed media painting by Michele Avanti

I was asked to create a painting for an astrology calendar. I chose the sign of Sagittarius.because I love Jupiter and I love horses. So here is my depiction of an angel centaur.

I painted the body of the centaur based on the amazingly beautiful Gypsy Vanner horses.

The woman is painted with a focused strength, her bodice is made up of many narcissus flowers, one the flowers of Sag. In her her hair is some holly to represent the season of Sagittarius. Her wings are designed to evoke the color of the sign and the fire element of it. In the background is Jupiter the ruler of Sag and you will see the glyph of Jupiter both as a clasp to her bodice and an earring.

The actual formation of the constellation is graphically drawn on one of Jupiter's moons in the foreground. The word and glyph for the sign is set on a photo I took of lichen and moss, both plants of the astrological sign of Sagittarius.

An original signed painting is available of this image, it is a gallery wrapped 16x20 so the when you see it, the two inch border on this image is part of the wrap and thus the image appears closer. I left the border her since FAA offers cards and other items where parts of the image might be chopped off.
