Three Celtic Cranes - Bywyd hir - Cydradddoldeb - Doethineb
a mixed media painting by Michele Avanti
The Crane is considered a sacred animal/ bird by many cultures. In Ireland and Wales, it is a totem that symbolizes Long Life, Equality & Wisdom.
Long life because it is known to have longevity and in mythology is will live a thousand years. Equality because it one of the few birds whereby both male and female equally share the care, protection, teaching and training of their young. Wisdom because the crane is considered a messenger from the other worlds bringing gifts of knowledge, awareness and the wisdom of the gods.
Celtic mythology states that the god Ogma invented the Ogham script after observing the flight of the cranes. Thus, the cranes symbolize secret knowledge that is represented in the Druid tradition by the Ogham script. The Ogham script is a tree language, the language of nature. Anyone who can read them can understand the wonders of nature.

Michele, I love how you have traversed from Mastery of traditional media into digital and photoartistic media. I appreciate your entries paying homage to ALL...v...BEST to you in All,
Laurel Adams
And so Michele, another day of tribute and I am indulging in my love of Celtic lore...and WHERE to my wandering Eyes DO I LAND?? ...but in your CELTIC ART COLLECTION!...ohhh...such INTRICATE DESIGN and ENCHANTMENT lives here! I love the overall symbology, fluid triune design...the spectral colours emergent from the velvet of ...dark matter,,(,and since the cranes could easily be one of my favorite birds, the blue heron)...there is an elemental balanced, peaceful FEEL in this beautiful image for me. Beautiful, Michele...
